Reclaiming My Sewing Mojo (and My Happiness)

Hi friends, it’s Margaret, and I want to share something a little more personal with you.

Two weeks ago, I turned in my two-week notice and officially stepped away from working full-time as an ER nurse. It wasn’t a decision I made lightly. Nursing has shaped so much of who I am, but somewhere along the way, the long hours, constant stress, and putting everyone else first left very little room for me.

And honestly? For the first time in a long time, I can breathe.

Choosing Joy (and Creativity) Again

This year is about reclaiming my happiness, and a huge part of that is reclaiming my sewing mojo.

If you’re anything like me, you probably have a mental list (or maybe an actual list 😅) of projects you keep saying you’ll get to “when you have time.” For years, I’ve said things like:

  • “I’ll sew that apron when work slows down.”
  • “I’ll finally make myself a skirt when I have a free weekend.”
  • “One day I’ll tackle jeans… maybe.”

Well, friends, that time is now.

Sewing All the Things (and Taking You With Me)

This year, I’m sewing all the projects I’ve been putting off, and I’m taking you along with me.

We’ll be sewing some of my absolute favorite things:

  • Aprons (because you can never have too many)
  • Bags for everyday life and organization
  • Skirts, shirts, and wearable basics you actually want to reach for

And we’ll also be trying some things that stretch us a little:

  • New techniques
  • New fabrics
  • And yes… JEANS

If you’ve ever felt intimidated by a project, I want you to know you’re not alone. Learning happens when we slow down, try, mess up, and try again, and that’s exactly what we’ll do together.

Why This Matters

Sewing has always been more than just fabric and thread for me. It’s therapy, creativity, and problem-solving. It’s a reminder that we can make something beautiful with our own hands.

Stepping away from full-time ER nursing has given me the space to reconnect with that part of myself and to show you that it’s okay to change seasons, follow joy, and make time for the things that light you up.

Come Sew With Me

Whether you’re brand new to sewing or you’ve been at it for years, I hope you’ll join me this year as we:

  • Learn together
  • Sew projects that feel doable and exciting
  • Build confidence one stitch at a time

Have you ever thought about sewing your own wardrobe? I mean, like, pretty much all of it; yes, even those items! If so, you’ll want to keep a close eye on my blog, YouTube channelFacebook page, and Instagram, and be sure to sign up for our newsletter to stay up to date on new projects, tutorials, classes, and behind-the-scenes sewing as this journey unfolds.

I’m so glad you’re here. Now, let’s go sew something fun.

  1. Good for you! I look forward to seeing your journey. I thought I did that last year, but my school called the day before classes started, and I couldn’t leave them stranded. High school isn’t like the ER, but I understand stress. Instead of giving up, I started a sewing club, and several 10th and 11th graders are loving it. I’m going to point them in your direction.

  2. Congratulations on choosing self-care! Retired high school teacher here and I am in my eighth year of reclaiming my ADHD sewing mojo. I have made my “quick and dirty” quilts for most of the grandkids. (I use flannel and cut squares, stitch them together and back that with a piece of gorgeous, soft fleece, “quilt” along the edges of the squares, finish the edge and DONE!) I make fleece pjs for the kids each winter and various other small projects.
