How To Use An Edge Stitching Foot

June 22, 2016 by Margaret Leave a Comment

how to use an edge stitch foot
The Edge Stitching Foot guides topstitching and edge stitching perfectly. Stitch folded tucks accurately.

Edge stitching and top stitching

These two stitches are essentially the same. Edge stitching is done close to the edge of the fabric, between 1/16” to ⅛” from the edge. Topstitching is typically ¼” to ⅜” from either a clean edge, like a neckline or from a seam line.

1. Snap on the Edge Stitching Foot.

2. Place project under foot with the flange guide at the edge of the project.

3. Select the straight stitch and adjust needle position so the stitching row will be sewn at desired distance from the edge. (Adjust the straight stitch needle positions from side to side with the width adjustment.)

4. For additional parallel rows of topstitching, adjust needle position and sew.

If you're looking for a fun project to try out your topstitching skills with I have a video tutorial where you can watch step by step instructions for this project.
